Trespassing
@ 2009-01-18 – 17:50:16
I live in a nice neighbourhood.. There are green fields and woodland on the opposite side of the lane and around the corner are many large properties with long drives.
Every day I walk down the hill and pass this wall.
I'd nod in passing to the elderly gentleman who would spend hours tending his landscaped garden and the rose beds at the front. Then one day, about six years ago he informed us that he had sold up and was moving to retire in Cornwall.
We heard that property developers had bought the property at substantial cost and right enough, in time, an application to develop the site and knock the bungalow down in order to build seven luxury homes was submitted...and rejected.
It was rented out for about a year but since then it has been uninhabited.
I took a walk down the drive the other day in order to take photos for the dereliction challenge, not really knowing what was up there as you can only see the roof-top from the road.

The gardens have been left to to seed, that much I did know!
..and I could see that the roof has had some of its tiles removed
I walked around the back and it confirmed my suspicion that it had not been visited in a long while. The tiles on the roof have been missing for the best part of a year but there they were stacked in the back garden!
The garden furniture has not been used last summer that much one can see.

I wonder what will happen eventually, in these difficult economic times.
Every other property around nearby seems to be extending but this is completely neglected. I suppose the developers are just sitting on it and will eventually get to build their mini estate ...only time will tell

Lisbon's coast
@ 2009-01-09 – 14:10:45
In an effort to brighten myself up and after seeing some lovely summer pics of Lisbon's seaside on Kiki's blog yesterday, it reminded me of the photos I took at Lisbon's coast when I visited there in June 2007.
If you look real close on the beach in the first pic..i'm sure it's Kiki herself sunbathing there

Parrot food
@ 2008-10-15 – 21:49:19
After reading one of LaSpice's posts where she wrote and posted pics about the sunflower crop in France it reminded me of a couple of photos I took in the market place in Valladolid, Spain.
They were huge, much bigger than the biggest human face.
They would keep a parrot in food for quite a long while

A city's Cathedral and its doors
@ 2008-10-06 – 19:21:55
It was begun by Juan de Herrera in 1580 on an ambitious scale and his design for Valladolid Cathedral provided a model followed by many churches in Spain and its South American colonies. It was continued by Alberto Churriguera from 1730 onwards but never completed. its plain and massive architecture marking a break with the elaborate ornament of the Plateresque style. Of the four corner towers which were planned only the south tower was built (restored in 1885 after its collapse in 1841)
These are photos I took of the Cathedral and its doors in Valladolid.

The Cathedral is being restored once more , this time the wonderful great doors are the object of the restoration
When you look at the side doors, a different picture is displayed...modern day graffitti? or maybe we should call it ancient grafitti .....hieroglyphics has a lot to answer for

Click on photos as usual for big pic. -
Men at work
@ 2008-10-01 – 22:39:41
Snapshots taken whilst on a break in Valladolid Spain.
I have a thing about snapping 'men at work'.
here are some (men) putting the finishing touches to a carpet of flower petalsThe last one above is of the completed carpet..it took days to create and the following day a civic and religious procession was held where they walked solemnly upon and through the carpet.
Individual emblems
ps
It wasn't easy getting these snaps as I had to 'battle' with a lot of other photographers who were trying to take pictures of the petal carpet before it was dishevelled..
